Participant Photo: Birds at the feeders
Additional images:
All photos are taken from the Cam feeder in my backyard. After years of trial and error, there are new species arriving at the seven feeders located on three separate stations.
The arrival of the Red-headed Woodpecker was greatly anticipated and there are no words to express the excitement felt when I saw the photo. They seem to enjoy eating striped sunflower seeds and spanish peanuts from the extra large tube or the tray feeders.
The Northern Flicker is another new arrival that I’ve been wanting to attract for years. They prefer eating from the ground or the mesh feeder filled with spanish peanuts so capturing a Cam photo wasn’t feasible.
In the past, there was constant congestion and a lot of competition at the feeders. Since then, I’ve maintained a more calm environment so the newbies feel at ease while eating. It was a hard lesson learned but the end result was definitely worth it.
The migrating birds are starting to show up and the other native birds are arriving more often.
