Participant Photo: Black Bird with a White Collar
Additional images:
We’re trying to identify this bird. It has a partial white collar and a white feather on it’s tail. It is the size of a Common Grackle, but does not have the yellow eye. Anyone know what it is? I’m visiting the Sarasota area in Florida (on the Gulf Coast).
Nothing comes up on Merlin.

Hi Michelle, This is a Common Grackle with leucism. You can learn more about color variants here.
Holly,
We live in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and we too have a black bird with a white tail and white collar that comes to our back yard feeder. Thanks for identifying the bird for us! : )
I had a black bird with a white collar at my feeder today. Erie, PA area. Never saw one here before.
I live in Central Missouri, and I saw a bird on my bird feeder this morning that looked exactly like the one in your picture.
I dont think its a grackle with a disease. Those I’ve seen have discoloration that is very splotchy. The bird I saw today has a very definate white ring around it’s neck. Maybe it was brought to the US.
