Does long term use(6 months) of cayenne suet harm birds? I seem to have a lot less woodpeckers around,or is it just the summer months? Ralph – South Jersey oak woods
Hi Ralph, Many commercial products are coated with capsaicin (the chemical that makes cayenne “hot”), but we are unaware of any research examining the effect of high doses of capsaicin on birds. Although it’s possible that capsaicin may not negatively affect wild birds, we discourage adding any products to bird foods that have not been thoroughly tested.
