Participant Photo: Brown-Headed Cowbirds in North Yarmouth

FeederWatch Count January 3-4 photo verification of Brown-header Cowbirds at our feeders in North Yarmouth. The last few years, increase in these number of these birds during breeding season. I have not had them come to my feeders this time of season until December of 2021. I offer black oil sunflower, safflower, and white proso millet in feeders. Up to 15 BHCO collect at feeders at one time. Tend to come in with European Starlings. I have seen one immature male Red-winged Blackbird with them at times. It seems that most are females and that many are immature. Quality of photos are not terrific as taken out windows, but they take off when I go outside.
