Participant Photo: Cactus Wren with nesting material
A pair of Cactus Wren were building a nest in a cholla cactus. There is a severe drought in SE Arizona and the javelinas (peccaries) have been eating cholla. Once the javelinas started digging around and eating the cholla, the Cactus Wrens removed feathers from inside the nest and moved them to another location. The Cactus Wren in the photo was carrying nesting material until he realized the suet feeder was more interesting.
