Participant Photo: California Quail Baby – One or Two days old
We’ve been waiting to see if our Quail pair would give is babies in our garden. Lots of thick bushes. Yesterday it turns out they did and 6 babies ran out from under one bush across the walkway to another.

I, too, have a family of quail that have been coming into our yard! It is such an exciting thing to see. My son and I watch them through the window in the mornings. They are, however, very skiddish. One morning, there were squirrels and bunnies in the yard with them. It was a sight to see!
I have found a baby quail being bullied by 2 scrub jays. It was hurt, no blood, no holes. Fell over to one side when I picked it up with a bunch of tissues. I carried it home, about 200yds from found. It was by a cyclone fence in the Folsom State Park. I figured it’s family got through but it tripped on the fence. The wings appear to be ok, feet can grasp my finger. Can do squats but when he tries to run he falls over. Maybe a sprain? Trauma of being picked on. I gave it water out of an eye dropper. It had a little water n is sleeping in the tissue nest basket 🧺. I have a metal dog crate, so I’ll let him practice standing n running there. We have lots of families here so it’s good to know he can be released into any of them. He’s got his feathers n his plume is tiny but standing up. A cat was crouching near, probably after the scrub jays, so I couldn’t leave him there! He’s resting good, calmed down, n I think you got the quail info. I’ll get seeds!
