Participant Photo: Cassin’s Finch, an unusual visitor
We live at an elevation of only 4815 feet and so were surprised to see this female Cassin’s Finch. Usually they are located higher in the mountains in the conifer forests, and only once before in fifteen years of counting have have we seen one in our yard. A few blocks away my sister and brother-in-law saw a pair for the first time ever. A photo from the previous encounter made it into FeederWatch’s difficult bird ID section.
