Participant Photo: Chipping Sparrow on a tube feeder
I have a couple small tube feeders that I fill with the cheap wild seed blends that a lot of stores carry, just because the Chipping Sparrows seem to enjoy sitting there and munching at the feeder, as a change from foraging on the ground. Until this year, I would only ever see the Chipping Sparrows in late Fall, when the wild grasses in the meadow had gone to seed, then the Chippers would arrive in flocks for a great feast. But, this year, I’ve had Chipping Sparrows in significant numbers in my yard all winter long.
