Participant Photo: Communal sleeping
The story is better than the photograph. Near dusk Western Bluebirds start gathering in our yard and up to eight at a time pile into the bird house on the fence; then at dawn one-by-one they exit, sit on the fence for a few minutes (photo), and then take off to forage. I presume this behavior is to help keep warm.
