Participant Photo: Compare two blue birds
I never thought I’d ever see a male Indigo Bunting and Blue Grosbeak sitting opposite one another on a feeder, but it happened. The Bunting isn’t entirely blue, so I presume it’s a first-year breeding male, since they are often only partly blue. The best thing is that both birds are equidistant from the camera so it’s easy to see how much bigger the Grosbeak is than the Bunting. Also the Blue Grosbeak has a much larger bill and longer tail…and, of course, chestnut color on its wings.
