As we were watching our feeding area through the kitchen window, all the little ones suddenly took flight and just as quickly this magnificent young Cooper’s Hawk flew in and landed on the ground and proceeded to walk around for several minutes before finally flying up to a tree branch just 20 ft or so from our house. After looking in all directions with no luck, off he flew to our neighbor’s shrubbery where many of the sparrows were hiding. As an aside, check out the bloody area on his belly from a recent kill.
