Participant Photo: Cooper’s Hawk immature
This young Cooper’s Hawk flew into our yard, stopped on the wall and in the tree, looking around. The House Sparrows at the bird bath gave a sharp, loud cry like an alarm call, and dashed into the Texas Ranger bushes by the bath. This is the first time we’ve seen an immature hawk since our regular visitor, also a Cooper’s Hawk, first arrived in December 2018 in juvenile plumage, subsequently molting into his adult feathers. I wonder what he thinks of this newcomer!
