Participant Photo: Eastern Phoebe
It was interesting to watch this Eastern Phoebe, which is a Tyrant Flycatcher, whose talent lies in catching flying insects on the wing, learn to land and take food from a feeder. It was obvious when the bird first showed up that it was extremely uncomfortable landing in order to take something to eat. Initially, it would perch nearby and then fly over a feeder and grab something from it while flying past. It took several weeks before it actually landed to pick a mealworm from a tray feeder.
