Participant Photo: Female Downy Woodpecker on suet feeder
This female arrived several hours after the male had visited, and they both were observed today for the first time this season, nearly two weeks after we started filling the feeders for the 2023-2024 winter season

Make sure to feed birds all year. Not only is it best for the birds but by only feeding in winter you are missing out on the summer birds and baby birds. Birds need food in spring and summer because they have baby birds that demand a lot of food and in fall, birds are caching seeds, and having a food supply can help them find more food.
