Participant Photo: Fish Crow Friends

A few years ago, a Fish Crow fell out of the nest and landed on my balcony. I gave it raisins and peanuts while it was learning to fly. Since it fledged, it has returned to visit me every spring. I leave it sweet treats and nuts, and it started leaving me gifts in return – chicken nuggets, slices of pie, strips of bacon, and other diner food, which it places by the door. This year, the crow has a mate, and after a brief introduction, they now both visit me. The new crow is slightly bigger and has a deeper voice (this is the one in the photo).
