I never before had a Great Crested Flycatcher stop in my yard, so this was a nice surprise.

I want to know what to put in my feeder… to get a Great Crested Flycatcher, a Blue Grosbeak and a Red-headed woodpecker to come! You must have quite the spread to bring all these species to your yard!
As I said, the Flycatcher was a surprise 1st and only time visitor for me. I have several feeders up during the winter: Sunflower seeds, Safflower seeds, white millet, suet blocks, gelatin blocks, dried mealworms, thistle (nyjer) seeds; and a no-mess mix that has peanut, pistachio, almond and pumpkin seed pieces, and sunflower kernels; and I always provide water, winter and summer. In the Spring before the Orioles start showing up, I’ll begin to provide fruit mostly oranges and grapes and jelly. I also throw some white millet on the ground for the Juncos and other ground feeding birds. I should also mention that it took years before the Orioles, Red-headed woodpeckers, Blue Grosbeaks and some other started to show up.
Thanks! I never heard of using gelatin blocks for bird feeding. Over the years, you slowly build up a clientele as the birds who found your feeder first start telling the passers-by about this great restaurant they’ve found. Hope you see a few more surprises this year!
The great crested flycatcher in my yard isn’t there for a feeder, it likes my lantana bushes. Good luck
