Participant Photo: Great rain and wind protection for your bird feeder station
I’ve tried various ways to protect my feeders from the elements, and this one is easy and works great. I used extra-strong packaging tape to adhere it to the feeder station – at the top, middle and bottom. It ain’t going anywhere. The rain and wind came along, and it didn’t even budge. Next I’m adding some bird roosting nests, so the birds have a place to snuggle up in severe storms.

Awesome idea, will see if we can do the same. So tired of cleaning out nasty feeders every time it rains!
How can that protect seed at the holes or trays when the wind is blowing the rain sideways? It rarely comes straight down.
If you think this doesn’t help keep seeds dry then I don’t know what else to say.
I’ve had this same set-up for 8 years and my seed rarely gets wet even when it pours. It’s not 100% foolproof of course but it works great 99% of the time.
When you hold an umbrella over yourself does anything above your waist get wet? I’m sure you’re answer is No so It works the same with the feeders. Like she said you have to make sure the feeders are raised up so the umbrella protects them.
I’ve gone through 3-4 umbrellas due to wind and racoons but have saved a ton on bird seed. If it gets wet it goes in the compost or trash right away so this has helped save on seed.
Is the umbrella a manual open? Do you leave it open all the time?
We think this is a great idea. My husband and I contemplated doing the same a few times.

The best umbrella place with the older better quality umbrellas are found at your local thrift stores.
