Participant Photo: Greater Roadrunner
The other night we were coming into the house and noticed this roadrunner roosting on our porch light. We were on the porch for several minutes before we noticed him!
We turned off the light and checked on him throughout the evening. He remained in the same position into the night. In the morning, he was gone!
I read that roadrunners go into a state of torpor (thermal regulation) on cold desert nights, and then sunbathe in the morning to recover. Since he was not moving, I was wondering if he was in torpor.
