Participant Photo: Hairy Woodpecker

This shot was gotten recently in Anderson County KY.
To my surprise, this field of corn had only been
recently harvested. I stopped on my walk to observe
several species of sparrows that were feeding on the left
over corn when this Hairy Woodpecker flew in close
and began ripping into several of the waste stalks.
I am not quite sure what he was looking for but it
was obviously good pickings because he would leave
and return a number of times to this spot before I
left and continued on with my hike.
