Participant Photo: Juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk
Additional images:
One of the two juvenile Red-shouldered Hawks that were hatched in the tree behind my backyard this Spring. It took the young birds a couple weeks after they fledged to realize that mom and dad were not coming back to feed them. During that time they never left the immediate vicinity of my yard. But now they have moved off some distance and are hunting on their own. I happened to see this one on the other side of the meadow and took a chance at some photos—while not great shots, these turned out better than I expected they would.
