Participant Photo: Pileated Paradise
For the first time ever this year, a Pilieated Woodpecker came to my feeder during the 16-17 Feeder Watch. The feeder is near my kitchen window, so is very close to the house. Well, as the attached photo shows, in July, three pileateds (looks like male, female and immature male) showed up in the same hickory tree next to the feeder and house. In 35 years living here, never saw a Pileated this close up. Not one, not two, but three in the same tree. Is this unusual, exceptional?
