I wasn’t sure what this bird was until I saw the white tail feathers, which don’t show in these pictures.

Hi Gary:
It has been so long since we’ve had a Spotted Towhee visit the yard that possibility never occurred to me. Thanks. It did seem a bit large for a Junco but the white on the tail threw me off. It hasn’t been back since the day I took the picture.
