Participant Photo: Red-winged Blackbird (Immature male)
In the four years I’ve been participating in FeederWatch, I’d never seen a Red-winged Blackbird visit. But that changed a couple of weeks ago on March 19 & 21 when a flock of 60 swarmed into my FW area! Their loud singing, & chack calling drew me out of my house & into the yard, where I saw them perched in our Cottonwood trees later that morning. They fed on wild bird seed & drank, chasing off my regular bird visitors. When that was gone, they ate seeds in our grass and weedy prairies that surround us.
