Participant Photo: Ruffed Grouse Pair

I’ve had one ruffed grouse now and again at this platform feeder underneath a thick spruce tree, but after a second flew in the other day, I wondered which one was my regular visitor. My question was answered when the grouse nearer the fence in the photo kept trying to go through the fence. Hence, it wasn’t familiar with my yard. With the cold weather (-30 C), the grouse are puffed up. Sometimes, they’re puffed up so much, you can’t see their necks.
