Participant Photo: Tree Swallow pair

This is the first time that I’ve been able to get both a male and female Tree Swallow in the same picture. I noticed them using a nesting box on our garden fence. I walked over to that box, and, of course, their first instinct was to escape and save themselves, so both of them flew off. I thought, if they have chicks in the box, they wouldn’t go far, and would want to get back to the nestlings as quickly as possible. So I just waited a couple minutes until they landed on the fence, shot the photo, and then left so that they could go about their business.
