Participant Photo: White-breasted Nuthatch nesting activity.
A pair of White-breasted Nuthatches has been visiting my feeders all winter. I was excited to observed the female frequently entering and exiting this crevice in a bur oak tree right outside my kitchen window. On March 23, 2019, I saw her going through sweeping motions all around the entrance to the crevice. I’m wondering if what looks like fur or feathers in her beak, is actually a quite shredded insect that she was sweeping with!
