Over the past year there have been at least 3 Cardinals with this same missing feathers on the head and face coming to my feeders.

Hi Carol, this will sometimes happen to Cardinals and Blue Jays when molting. It does not affect their health and the feathers will return soon. It might also be caused by mites, but it is most likely just molting. Ava
