Description

Over the past few days I have observed a chipping sparrow frequenting my feeders with this growth/tumor on its face. I’m not sure if it is finch eye disease, avian pox or just a growth/tumor from birth and/or injury. The bird seems to be eating fine. The bird flies normal. It appears to interact with its own species, as well as other species, appropriately.

I have a Chipping Sparrow with the same growth on its face. I guessed it was a tumor. Has anyone weighed in?

Hi Tim – no weigh in on this, but I also posted the photos in two bird groups on Reddit – general consensus was possible avian pox – I took all my feeders down for 2 weeks and sanitized.
