By chance, I noticed that I had a photo of this House Finch [#1] with an apparent eye infection sitting atop a shepherd’s hook that holds a tray of Safflower seed. Searched other recent pics and found what may be a 2nd finch with the disease taken six days apart. These are the first captures that I have found with eye infected House finches out of hundreds taken over more than a year at my Safflower feeders just outside my home office window.That’s not to say they weren’t around, but never this evident. Very sad! Hope these photos and accompanying info is helpful.
