This sparrow has been visiting our feeder and has eye crust on both sides.

It might be avian pox or growths.
Conjunctivitis, it is very contagious to other birds. Usually it is seen in finches, but can spread to other birds they usually become blind and fall. Pray to cats, or other predators, or starve to death, because they can no longer see to find food.
