Description

I suspect some of my House Finches have Avian Pox. Over the last two years I have noticed wart-like growths on some individuals, primarily on the toes and head. The individual pictured has one of the largest growths I have observed. It was spotted on multiple occasions, beginning on 10/16/2024. During my Project FeederWatch observations, this individual was present on both 11/2 and 11/3/2024. Although I haven’t seen this bird since then, on 11/23 and 11/24, a different house finch with at least four growths was observed. This one had large growths above the right eye and on the right carpel and smaller growths on the left side of the bill and under the left eye. It was fluffed up while other individuals were not, but made multiple visits and was eating food, although it had more trouble keeping balanced on the feeder perches compared to other birds.
