Diseased Bird: Finch with Eye Disease

A juvenile male Purple Finch (?) appeared at my feeders for several weeks in Mid February with the eye disorder pictured above. The same Finch seemed to be alive and healthy one month later. His species and gender are a bit confusing since it looks like a female Purple Finch with a tiny bit of pinkish-red on the throat, crown, and rump. Only one bird at my feeders had this coloration and that’s why I conclude that the bird survived.
