Diseased Bird: House Finch with Unusual Eye and Beak

We are confused about this house finch, whether it has eye disease or some kind of trauma to its left eye and beak. We have occasionally seen house finches with eye disease, but they did not look like this. The right eye, not shown in this image) appears normal. This bird has returned to our feeder almost daily for just over a week so far.
