Diseased Bird: Mourning dove with injury/scar?

I first saw this dove on my deck moving a bit stiffly. Then for several days I did not see it. Eventually it returned, moving more easily, and I got these photos.
I’m assuming that it is either wounded or scarred. Is there anything else that would cause this disruption to the plumage?
