Diseased Bird: MY FAVOURITE BLUE JAY
This blue jay has been visiting my feeders for 3 or 4 years now. I look forward to seeing her/him every winter. The eye just remains the same yet the bird flies just fine. I would say that he/she takes a backseat to the younger looking birds yet it is much tamer and more selective as to what peanuts it takes. Any ideas what this eye problem may be?

Maybe it’s a crossbreed between a blue jay and a steller’s jay. Steller’s jays have black faces.
I don’t believe that Steller’s Jays and Blue Jays can crossbreed.
This bird could have melanism. Melanism is a condition where an animal has an excessive amount of melanin, resulting in darker of black areas on their body.
Hope this helped!
Its eye looks fine. It might have mites or it might just be molting.
