Sick Bird: Purple finch with distorted claw

This finch has visited for three days with some kind of lump on his lower leg. He eats enthusiastically, hops amongst the perches without balance problems, and flies without wobbling. Can’t get close enough to tell – it almost looks like a wad of suet?
