I’m in the Beverly Grove area in Los Angeles and saw a female house finch with a swollen right eye – there is a male that is with her who isn’t sick but I’m observing and cleaning the feeder daily with bleach soap water. I’m feeding them the Dr Harvey’s Fabulous Finch Food which is pricey but it seems to be a really healthy nourishing option for them, song sparrows, and mourning doves that visit my balcony!
Hello Aimee, thanks for reaching out. Whenever a sick bird comes to your feeder, we recommend that you remove the feeders the sick bird is using for a couple of weeks to ensure that disease is not being spread at your feeders and to give birds a chance to disperse. While the feeders are down clean your feeders and feeder area thoroughly. We have tips on cleaning your feeder on our Sick Birds and Bird Diseases page here:https://feederwatch.org/learn/sick-birds-and-bird-diseases/
