Diseased Bird: Sick, blind (?) bird

This poor little bird seems to be blind. The right eye is completed ‘gone’? The left eye was closed completely, but other than that, looked fine. I was able to walk right up to him at the feeder and stayed there for quite a while trying to get a good picture. He wasn’t the least bit afraid, never flew away, which is why I’m thinking he is completely blind. I’m still somewhat new at identifying birds, so not sure what species this is.
