Sick Bird: Spotted Towee with eye issues

This photo was taken from one of the photo blinds set up at the Davis Mountains State Park, Jeff Davis County, Texas. This female Spotted Towhee is after peanut butter from one of the feeder logs used at the park. She also fed on the ground from the various seed feeders.

The area around the bill and eye looks like it is diseased. I know the goldfinches and House Finches are being studied for eye problems but had not heard anything about other species. I saw this one and thought it might be of interest. This was observed 01/07/17.
