Description

Has been at location since December 1, 2013. Bird feeds on the ground, by a ‘jackhammer’ approach; because the ground is often frozen, it repeatedly jabs its beak down into the earth. Has been seen eating from suet ball at times. Often aggressive around other ground feeders, scattering other birds away from immediate proximity. Supplied bird feed is mainly black oil sunflower, though occasional high quality mix is spread on the ground. A couple of months ago it was almost prey to a (suspected) sharp-shinned hawk, but the hawk was spooked away. Thrush has been seen daily since appearing at feeders December 1st. 2013.
