This European Goldfinch appeared at our niger thistle tube feeder around 12:30 in the afternoon, on Friday, December 13th. It stayed long enough for me to watch it with the binoculars, grab the camera and snap a quick picture. I had no idea what it was and finally after much searching online, (it wasn’t in any of my field guides) discovered its true identity. I am hoping it was not a pet bird that escaped because our temps in Grayslake have been below normal for more than a week. Today we had snow all day and I did not observe the goldfinch. Quite an exciting feederwatch week!
