Description

Horned lark (male) visited my backyard feeder watch area on the morning of Feb. 13, 2014 during blizzard like condition of a Northeaster. This is my feederwatch location in Milltown/East Brunswick, NJ. This is the best photo I could get through a snowy window and he was hopping around a lot – not staying in any one place for long. With my binoculars I could see him well enough to see the horns on his head. This is the first time I have ever seen a Horned Lark in my yard. I believe they are a species of concern in NJ.

The male and female Rusty Blackbirds visited my yard near my feeder yesterday, Feb. 13, 2014, during the nor’easter snowstorm. At one point the male went into the platform style feeder as well as feeding on the ground. I have seen Rusty Blackbirds before this and reported them in my Feederwatch Count but wanted to provide documentation. I know they are a species of special concern in NJ.
