PFW ID 117488 I have submitted to you a week or 2 ago about this bird but did not get a response, I now have a better photo. Is this a Merlin or Sharp shinned Hawk? It has been around since October…my first siting…it lands in the tree in my backyard, as in the photos I have submitted. I know a Merlin should not be here now but the size,colouring and markings around the eyes make me think it is a Merlin. Plus the tail is white with brown bands, a Sharp shinned Hawk has a brown/dark tail with white band…the opposite of a Merlin.
Please let me know. This is a Merlin. Great record for Collingwood.
