Description
Tufted Titmice are the most common visitors to my feeders, House Sparrows aside. These small, unremarkably gray birds are a lot of fun for me to watch. They follow my movements from an overhanging branch of our big oak tree and carefully plan their “raids:” as soon as I have finished refilling the feeders, often before the door closes behind me, they dart for their prize of sunflower seeds. I came across the bird in the photo in February. It was holding an acorn between its feet and pecking it open and I thought that it looked beautiful in the silvery midday light.
