Description

I heard two Pileated Woodpeckers calling to each other; one was close and the other farther away. I checked all the trees around me but couldn’t find the close bird even though it was still calling. I then noticed some movement in the drainage ditch next to me and there was the woodpecker cleaning out a dead log on the ground. It could get mostly in the log and didn’t mind I was close.
