Description
While watching for spring migrants, this attractive male yellow-shafted Northern Flicker dropped in and made his presence known, displaying his yellow underside from which his subspecies description originates. He proceeded to drop down to the ground and take apparently enjoyable dust bath.

Superb image!
We had one fly into a 5th story window in Manhattan about 4 years ago, unfortunately didn’t survive but what an amazing species.
A beautiful photo. I had found a feather in my memory garden (Virginia) and I was trying to identify the bird. Your photo really helped. They are a beautiful bird that visit our yard on an occasion, not a regular visitor.
