The closest I’ve ever been to any heron or egret in the many years I’ve been photographing them, and the late golden light was perfect! It didn’t notice me because it was stalking prey in a deep, dark, narrow, winding channel in the marsh. I framed it very tightly to emphasize Its bright eye, contrasting colors and its intentness….
