I first noticed that this finch was scooping seed rather than pecking at it. Then I saw that the top half of his beak is missing.

I saw one just like it at my feeder thoday.

I have one that has been coming to my feeder with the lower half of the beak missing. The upper beak seems to be elongated and with a lighter colored portion toward the tip. I wasn’t sure if it was broken or deformed at first. I’m thinking it is deformed. A full grown male who appears to have a mate so it doesn’t seem to inhibit his ability to eat.
