Description

We have been glimpsing this female leucistic Pileated Woodpecker on our farmstead since January. She seems to be sticking around. Today, she patiently hopped about a tree just outside our old, wavy, frosty windows so we could take a number of bad photos. It’s still winter here, but the birds are starting to display a little Spring behavior. She could be the offspring of some nesting “normal” Pileated woodpeckers we have nearby, or she could possibly looking for a mate, as we have only ever seen her alone so far.
