Deformed bill

Pygmy Nuthatch with deformed beak. A cheerful little fellow.
We have one in Tijeras, NM. It has a long but functional bill. It has come to our feeder all winter and looks healthy. Bill is a bit more than twice normal. Slight curve keeps the end open.

If you’re a participant in FeederWatch, go to your data homepage and scroll to the bottom – you’ll see a spot to upload a photo of an “Unusual Bird.” If you’re not a FeederWatch participant, we are happy to take submissions from guests to our photo gallery. You’ll see an “Upload” button along the top of the gallery.
